EIGHT DIMENSIONS OF SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability is not a separate marketing feature. It is the result of how the shirt was designed, what it is made from and where it is made.
01
MATERIAL
The navy shirt is made from 100% organic cotton. Material selection determines both environmental impact and how long the garment lasts: a fabric that withstands washing and abrasion needs replacing less often.
02
DISTANCE
Production is kept geographically concentrated within Europe. Designed in Sweden, fabric from Portugal, made in Lithuania — shorter distances between the steps that make the garment.
03
PEOPLE
Manufacturing takes place in factories with fair working conditions and fair wages. We do not state certifications we cannot substantiate.
04
DURABILITY
French fell seams, bound edging, durable fabric and a construction that can be repaired. Wear it. Repair it. Keep it.
Wear it. Repair it. Keep it.
05
UNISEX
One design made for women and men. The same garment should work across different bodies and different styles — which is why we do not split the range.
06
VERSATILITY
Designed for everyday life as well as more formal situations. A garment that works in more situations reduces the need for specialised wardrobe purchases.

ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY
Fritis is run as a cooperative economic association. Any profit is reinvested to improve the products and to support other initiatives working to develop and improve our world.
08
DESIGN
By using a classic design that has stayed good-looking, relevant and worn for several hundred years, our shirt will never be hidden away — it can keep being used year after year.
MADE TO BE USED
Durability is more than choosing a durable textile. It is decided in the construction: how the seams are made, how the edges are finished and how the parts are joined.
- FRENCH FELL SEAM
- Enclosed seam edges that do not fray.
- BOUND EDGING
- Bound finishes on exposed areas.
- BUTTONS
- Buttons in a tone matching the fabric.
- COLLAR
- Stand collar with a half placket.
- CUFF
- A simple cuff made to be replaceable.
- FABRIC
- Oxford weave, or linen and cotton.

REPAIR, DON'T REPLACE
A garment that is used will eventually show wear. The shirt is therefore made to be maintained and repaired rather than replaced.
- Replacing a button
- Repairing a seam
- Mending small fabric damage
- Washing
- Ironing
- Long-term care
The guides will be published here once they are complete.
